I So Smart

As seen over at Miranda's blog:

All-Around Smart

You are all-around smart. Essentially, that means that you are a good combination of your own knowledge and experience, along with having learned through instruction - and you are equally as good with theoretical things as you are with real-world, applied things. You have a well-rounded brain.

20% theoretical intelligence
20% learned intelligence

Take this quiz at QuizGalaxy.com

Too bad I drank almost a bottle of wine tonight. I had plans to actually write a blog. Eh, well, maybe tomorrow then... in between coats of paint on the guest bath ceiling. Ugh.

To Anon - Nope, still no package. I answered the door this morning thinking it was the postal service. It was someone trying to sell Kirbies. So not only was it not the package and I was reminded of you (being the Kirby owner you are), I was also sucked into his little sales pitch for about a minute and a half until I kindly shut the door in his face.

  • Well, that was a fun quiz. Weather report? Is it as warm there as it has been here? Freakish.

I've Got 9 Minutes

Yeah, that's right. Nine minutes. Nine minutes before it is Saturday (here in mt).

I promised a post today. Maybe I shouldn't have done that. Didn't think I was going to be going out with bff&w (bf's friend and wife). The dinner was yummy.

Unrelated...

Does anyone know if kafar lime leaves are the same as generic lime leaves? I need the kafar kind for a dish I'm making for dinner. I don't know how important they are to the recipe either. Anyone with some culinary shopping ideas/hints/pointers?

Sorta unrelated...

Is the bf already starting to resent that I "get to" hang out at the house all day while he is at work or am I just projecting my own feelings onto him?

Unrelated...

How do you renew a friendship with someone you haven't seen, mailed, or spoken to in almost two years? I kind of let the friendship go because she was a "supporter of sorts" of my ex-bossman. We couldn't really talk about work because she had a good relationship with the guy (she was from the same group). Now that I am done, I think I would like to rekindle the friendship. We had lots in common outside of labwork and I would like to know how she is doing. It just seems too strange to drop an email out of the blue. Plus, if I do, how much of my 'new' life should I include? In short, is an email okay and if so should it be short or lengthy.

Unrelated...

I am having a problem with a sweater I just bought pilling. Someone once told me about a stone that worked well. The lint brush definitely isn't doing squat. I dunno what to look for here in Canada. Any readers in Canada have a trusty chain/box store that might carry what I am looking for (a sweater pill remover)?

Okay, these are the only things I could think of in nine minutes. By my watch I have about 53 seconds to post this message. Aaaah, procrastination wasn't just a school thing for me... as it turns out. Have a great weekend everyone! I'll try to blog Monday or before.

  • Well, it's about time! You have been missed:)

    1. I am pretty sure the lime leaves are specialty. Good luck with that one.

    2. Why should he resent your staying home? Sounds like he has a lot of fresh new paint and better dinners.

    3. Just send a short email. If she wants to pursue, you can fill in all the details, if not you haven't gotten blabby with someone who just doesn't care.

    4. They sell razor blade type things to de-pill sweaters. My best advice is suck it up, cupcake, ditch the sweater. (I couldn't resist;)) It really will never be right.

    5. Any sign of package????

    6. Once the Olympics start, bye, bye Woodworks....

Glad all is well in the great, uncharted north country. You should add a fireplace. I am turning my heat off for 12 hours a day to save money. How sad is that? Work continues to suck. Too many years of work left, I think. The new sink continues to look great. I think I am going to start replacing the appliances with stainless ones. I think the kitchen will look fabulous when I am done.

    Love you lots!

  • For pilling sweaters I use a boar-bristle brush -- generally available from any druggist or pharmacay section of a grocery store.

I don't think it's an especialy Canadian trick, and it works best with fluffier forms of wool (Like mohar and cashmere). Use it only very gently with merino wool. Probably not useful with a synthetic.

For shiny, smooth threads with pilling, I use a regular razor to remove surface pills.

Try to avoid carrying bags starpped across the shoulder to minimize pilling.

OMG!

Oh My Gawd! Has it really been two and half weeks since I last posted??? Aaaaah!

Okay, in short...
  • I went to a professional hockey game - love that game and it is best in person
  • I went to a professional lacrosse game (my first!) - totally recommend it although there is a story but that will wait until another post
  • I have painted three closets (which each took three coats of paint because we were going from a light lilac color to white)
  • I painted one bathroom and have started another
  • The bathroom is sponge painted. I am soooo happy with it. I will definitely return to this when I have pictures to post!
  • I took my braids out (it took over 12 hours) and now I feel like I am balding
  • I am keeping up with almost none of my resolutions.
  • I haven't been keeping up on emailing or calling people.
  • One resolution I have been doing good is cooking and eating healthy. Not feeling any thinner but there have been a few "bad" eats. Need to add the gym time but still haven't found a gym.
  • Gone to the movies and saw Brokeback Mountain. That will most certainly be a blog topic.
  • Also saw Last Holiday. Had a fun night out with a woman up here who is the wife of bf's best friend. There isn't really much to say about the movie. It is everything you would expect.
  • I went to a bday party for a dog. Yeah, whatever. I actually like the guy (bf's cousin) but it was just weird to even kind of make it a party for the dog. At least she wasn't wearing a birthday hat...

Mmm, other stuff too but I gotta go call the vet. I promise, promise to blog again tomorrow. No more of this once every two weeks thing. Oh, speaking of regular blogging... does anyone know what this 100 days meme of sorts is about?

1 Comments:

  • I saw Brokeback Mountain too. Actually, I read the short story about a year ago at a friend's suggestion and just haven't been the same since.

You have all year to implement your master plan, that's what I'm telling myself because I feel like I am totally dropping the ball on everything this year.

50 Resolutions Too Many?

Again, Happy New Year everyone! Sorry for the absence without warning. I had intended to post fairly regularly over the holiday. I had entries drafted and everything. Unfortunately, my computer was working overtime to get some stuff downloaded, transcoded and burned before my trip up to Canada.

Small side note: It has been brought to my attention that I never explained why I sometimes write canadia instead of canada. It is a shout-out to one of my best friends, misha. I know that Canada does not have an "i" in it. It's just a nickname we use.

Anyway, back to the point here. Since my drafts are now obsolete I am trying to write new, more timely, posts. My words today are not exactly, um, flowing. Frankly, I don't really feel like it. But I am overwhelmed with guilt for completely pussing out on publishing entries for nearly two weeks.

Here is the short of it and I will return to these items in the next few days... xmas was great, food was interesting, gifts were perfect, trip up to arctic circle (again - in jest - not that far north, really) was fairly uneventful, first few days with bf have been fun, have some plans for projects and activities coming up that I am looking forward to.

And now to include content in the post that is timely - here is a list of 50 resolutions. 50 is really an extreme number but it seems to be popular in the blogsphere so I am just being a member of the cattle train on this one. For the last few years I haven't made any so maybe this is just making up for lost opportunities?

50 Resolutions/Promises/Plans:
1. Eat healthier
2. Go to the gym at least three times a week but try for four or five
3. Lose weight (see #1 and #2)
4. Vacuum and dust regularly - not just when it is so gross I can't stand it
5. Paint the bathrooms
6. Help finish the basement
7. Create library of the WoodWorks series
8. Bite my tongue even more often (as current amount is clearly still not enough)
9. Stop wallowing in bed
10. Drink less soda pop
11. Go on a cruise with best friend for "bachelorette" party
12. Call and/or write friends and family more often
13. Send b-day cards
14. Get a new hairstyle
15. Start using anti-wrinkle skin care products (starting to notice those blasted "fine lines")
16. Finish crocheting both afghans
17. Blog on less superficial topics now that I have time to keep up on current events more fully
18. Learn more html programming
19. Read more books
20. Go camping
21. Make gift for bf's mom before next xmas
22. Find 10 great recipes for meals that are extremely tasty AND healthy
23. Participate in the Canadian Birkebeiner
24. Learn to ballroom dance (with my partner)
25. Take a vested interest in the elections
26. Turn the olympics off when they are featuring sports I don't really enjoy watching (can anyone say "curling"?) to stop wasting my time
27. Paint the closets
28. Get to know my bf's eldest niece better - I think she could use the 'adult friend'
29. Enjoy the "good things" more
30. Send copies of my degree confirmation to a few people who should know I finally finished
31. Relearn my French
32. Go to Vancouver or Seattle (since I am now within driving range)
33. Be more patient
34. Volunteer to do something that isn't self-serving
35. Consolidate my e-mail accounts (I currently have 7)
36. Update my address book - both snail mail and electronic
37. Help my bf finally get the office completely cleaned up and organized before he moves it all to the basement and it (inevitably) gets worse
38. Write a kick-ass maid-of-honor speech and practice until it doesn't make me become a blithering crying idiot by the end
39. Play ultimate in the summer league and NOT get hurt
40. Join some sort of club (reading, knitting, etc.) where I can make my 'own' friends
41. Be more understanding
42. Jump out of a plane
43. Relax and pamper myself but do not let it get to the point of sloth
44. Finish the projects that are already started and try not to start too many new ones
45. Learn to enjoy, or at least tolerate, driving at granny speed (the only speed allowed up here!)
46. Get a job
47. Write a novel (NaNoWiRe anyone?)
48. Find a good salon here
49. Show my love to my family and friends
50. Check this list regularly to see how I am doing

Hmmm, sound do-able? Guess I will at least try.

  • Hey, I LIKE curling! Ambitious list. It should be interesting to check back in next Jan 1 and see where you are in relation to the list!

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 8:37 PM

  • Actually, I kinda like curling too. It was just another chance to tease the bf about his canadian-ness.

  • You can't call them resolutions or you won't bother. I know I don't. Sorry to pull the 50 thing on you. I just couldn't seem to contain the list of stuff I want to accomplish this year down any smaller. And I wonder why I am chronically over-scheduled?

Enjoy your year, it sounds like it will be a good one!

  • Just checking in to say hi. I take Bloggy Village life seriously, LOL! Anyway, I thought of you this week as I sat through six hours of chem I lecture and three hours of chem II lecture with brand-spankin' new adjunct. Trying to simplify the material for the chem students made me appreciate all those who do this for a living (or have done it for a living. I remember you did the whole adjunct at a cc thing at one point).

Hope the weather isn't too bad up where you are!
