It Has Been A While
After enjoying many months in Canada while looking for a job in the western provinces, it became apparent that none of the 41 schools I applied to were interested in having me. I was forced to return to the states and look for academic jobs located in the US in mid-JUNE. Suffice to say the pickings were slim. I applied to all five jobs I found that matched, at least to some degree, my field and research interests (being none). All five schools (eventually) contacted me about an interview. I was able to afford to visit two. I picked the lesser of the two evils and ended up in Missouri. The other choice was nowhere, Kansas. The Penn. school I was most interested in dragged it's feet and didn't commit to an interview until after I had already accepted the job here in the middle of nowhere, MO.
Anyway, the town sucks, the weather is miserable, but I am loving the job and decided to make use of the free tuition to take Painting (acrylic). So, for the family (who are the only ones I imagine will visit this blog after so long an absence), here is a picture of my first "work of art". Sucks, doesn't it? Yeah, fits right in down here... sigh.

Oh yeah, part of the problem is that even after almost three weeks of classes, the student bookstore (the only place within 200 miles where you can get the brand) still doesn't have the acrylic paints in white or black. I was limited to blue, green, red, and yellow. The photo isn't all that stellar either... but that's another story. Caio.
